India captured the series with Rohit Sharma’s brilliant century

India secured a commanding 2-0 advantage in the three-ODI series by defeating England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

Rohit Sharma Hit faboulas century

The Men in Blue successfully chased a target of 305, thanks to an outstanding century from captain Rohit Sharma. His partnership with Shubman Gill was crucial in setting up India’s victory. Earlier, Ben Duckett and Joe Root scored half-centuries for England, while Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets. Duckett and Philip Salt established an 81-run opening partnership after England opted to bat first.

Although Salt was dismissed, Duckett and Root strengthened England’s position during the middle overs. Liam Livingstone’s 41 off 32 balls propelled England to a total of 304.

A dominant 136-run opening stand between Rohit and Gill made the run-chase appear straightforward for India. Rohit scored a match-winning century before India faced a minor collapse. However, Axar Patel helped secure India’s victory by four wickets in just 44.3 overs. Initially, Rohit defended a few deliveries after taking a strike, but he quickly put pressure on the bowlers with his delightful strokes.

While Gill anchored one end, Rohit’s aggression propelled India to 77/0 after the first ten overs. The Indian captain continued his assault, reaching his century off only 76 balls. He finished with a brilliant 90-ball 119, which included 12 fours and 7 sixes, before being dismissed by Livingstone. Rohit has now accumulated 10,987 runs at an average of 49.26 in ODIs. He has overtaken the legendary Rahul Dravid in terms of ODI runs among Indian players. Dravid accumulated 10,889 runs during his illustrious career for India, Asia, and ICC.

Rohit is currently only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Virat Kohli (13,911), and Sourav Ganguly (11,363) on this prestigious list. He also now holds the record for the second-most sixes in ODI history, with 338. Before this match, Rohit was tied with Chris Gayle at 331 sixes. Rohit achieved his century in just 76 balls, marking it as his second-fastest in ODIs based on balls faced. In total, he has smashed 49 international centuries, matching Australia’s David Warner. He now has 32 ODI centuries, making it the third-most in the format.

While Rohit played aggressively, Gill effectively rotated the strike, scoring 60 runs off 52 balls, featuring 9 fours and a six. Gill achieved a half-century in his second consecutive ODI, having scored a match-winning 87 in the opening match of the series for India. In Cuttack, the Indian batter reached his 15th half-century in ODI cricket, complementing his six centuries in the format. Following a match-winning fifty on his return to ODIs, Iyer seemed set for another fifty-plus score.

Unfortunately, he was limited to 44 runs from 47 balls due to an untimely run-out, with 3 fours and a six in his innings. Iyer, who shared a valuable 70-run partnership with Rohit, surpassed 2,500 runs in ODI cricket, entering this match with 2,480 runs. Rohit led the Indian team in his 50th ODI as captain, becoming the eighth player to do so for India. He joins other notable players such as MS Dhoni (200), Mohammad Azharuddin (174), Ganguly (146), Kohli (95), Dravid (79), Kapil Dev (74), and Tendulkar (73).

Noteworthy, Rohit first captained the Indian squad in a 50-over game back in 2017.

India vs England 4th T20I LIVE SCORE: Shami is absent once more, while Dube and Rinku have been added to the squad; England have won the toss and chosen to field first

India vs England 4th T20I LIVE SCORE: England has steadily improved in their ability to contend with India throughout the series, culminating in their victory in the third T20I, which kept them in the contest. Neither side’s batters have been in peak form, but India will need their players to step up if they hope to maintain their advantage over the visitors.

India vs England 4th T20I LIVE SCORE:

Jos Buttler finally won the toss today after losing it in the previous three matches of the series, and England has opted to bowl first in the fourth T20I happening in Pune. India has reintroduced Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh, replacing Dhruv Jurel and Mohammed Shami, and added Shivam Dube to strengthen the middle order in place of Washington Sundar.

This series has revolved around a contest between India’s spinners and England’s fast bowlers, with batters from both teams experiencing periods of inconsistency. India secured a strong victory in the first match and narrowly won the second thanks to Tilak Varma’s effort, but in the third, even Varun Chakravarthy’s five-wicket performance couldn’t save them from defeat. England has shown marked improvement in their ability to win in these conditions as the series has progressed, so India is aware that they face a significant challenge in maintaining their lead for the remainder of the series.

Today’s spotlight will be on some of India’s batters, especially the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Their places in the lineup could be challenged by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill with their return to T20. Samson had earned an extended opportunity in the position with his impressive three centuries in four innings prior to this series. However, against Jofra Archer and his colleagues, he appears to have struggled significantly. Abhishek Sharma had a great performance in the first T20I but did not have much impact in the second and third matches.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a duck on just the second ball of the first T20I and has failed to capitalize on his opportunities in the subsequent matches. Across his last six innings, he has accumulated merely 52 runs, marking the first time he has gone six innings without scoring a fifty in T20Is. Nonetheless, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate has suggested that India isn’t overly concerned, as such phases are a normal part of a high-risk batting approach.

“Someone like Surya has set such high benchmarks for himself, and I wouldn’t claim that consistency or predictability should be prioritized in T20 cricket,” Ten Doeschate remarked. “The role we assign to these players is to go out and score at a rapid pace, and given the modern dynamics of international T20 cricket, we allow for a bit of fluctuation and a lean phase like he is experiencing right now.”

England’s strategy of aggressively attacking the Indian bowlers, especially the spinners, nearly succeeded in the Chepauk during the second T20I. The truth is, they likely intended to employ the same tactic in Rajkot for the third T20I, even if it hadn’t proven successful in Chennai. Such is the nature of the Bazball approach. However, they have a tough challenge ahead, as in India, they are up against a team that has triumphed in 15 of the 18 T20Is they have played since their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Abhishek Sharma plays a key role in India’s victory against England in Kolkata

A scorching 79 runs off 34 balls from Abhishek Sharma led India to a win over England in the first T20I at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Abhishek took on the prominent England bowlers as India chased down a total of 133 in just 12.5 overs. He also formed crucial partnerships with Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma. The England team, meanwhile, was dismissed for 132 runs in their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma showcases his bold shots

While Samson managed the early overs, Abhishek eventually joined him in the aggressive batting. Despite Jofra Archer and Mark Wood challenging Abhishek with some sharp bouncers, the Indian opener showcased his fearless shots. His footwork against veteran spinner Adil Rashid was exceptional as well.

Abhishek concluded his innings with a remarkable 79 off 34 balls, featuring 5 fours and 8 sixes.

Rashid, who had seen Abhishek hit numerous boundaries, eventually managed to get him out.

The left-handed batsman sped to his second half-century, adding to the century he already had.

Currently, Abhishek has accumulated 335 runs from 13 T20Is with an average of 27.91, and his strike rate has soared to 183.06.

Since his T20I debut in 2024, the young batter has almost established himself as India’s key T20I opener.

Abhishek is in outstanding form recently, leading Punjab with 467 runs from eight matches at an average of 58.37 in the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, showcasing an impressive strike rate of 130.44.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The comeback of these two key figures, Temba Bavuma as the captain, and the revelation of the South African squad

The Champions Trophy 2025 will begin on February 19 and South Africa has now announced its team. On January 13, team head coach Rob Walter revealed the 15-member squad. Temba Bavuma will play as South Africa’s captain.

During Bavuma’s captaincy, South Africa progressed to the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25, where they are set to face Australia in June. The team’s Champions Trophy squad appears to be very strong, strengthened by the return of fast bowlers Anrich Norkia and Lungi Ngidi, who haven’t played in the ODI tournament since September 2023. Norkia also missed the ODI World Cup 2023 due to a stress fracture in his reverse. Lungi Ngidi has been absent from international cricket since October 2024 because of a back injury.

The main team that guided South Africa to the semifinals of the 2023 ODI World Cup has largely been retained. Ten members of the team share the same names as those who competed in that World Cup. Wiaan Mulder, who will be playing in a 50-over ICC event for the first time, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, and Tony De Zorzi are among the new players on the team.
“This team has a wealth of experience. Recent performances in ICC events show that we are capable of reaching the last stage of global tournaments,” Rob Walter stated when the South African team was announced. We are eager to advance in our pursuit of this title and take the next phase.

These squads are part of South Africa’s group

On March 1, the South African squad will travel to Karachi to play England in their last group match. Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England had previously announced their teams in addition to South Africa.

ICC Champions Trophy: These Indian cricketers might be overlooked

As the ICC Champions Trophy approaches in just a month, there is much speculation surrounding India’s 15-player squad. According to a report by PTI, experienced players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue to be key members of India’s ODI batting lineup. However, the prospects of KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja remain uncertain as they may face exclusion from the team.

The selection committee is set to convene this weekend to finalize the squad for the forthcoming tournament.

Rahul’s position in the ICC Champions Trophy is being questioned

Rahul, who served as vice-captain during the 2023 ODI World Cup and played a crucial role in the middle order, may not be selected for the upcoming tournament. His spot is under evaluation since Rishabh Pant is anticipated to return as the primary wicketkeeper for the Champions Trophy.

Rahul had filled in for Pant, who was recuperating from injuries sustained in a car accident. Rahul’s Performance and Future Outlook Rahul led India as a keeper during the 2023 South Africa tour and participated in two of the three matches against Sri Lanka in the summer of 2024.

However, his form has been inconsistent, leading to his omission from the Sri Lanka series. His sluggish fifty, which took more than 100 balls, significantly contributed to India’s defeat against Australia on November 19, 2023. Doubts persist regarding Jadeja and Shami’s inclusion Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are contenders for the spin all-rounder position, potentially replacing Jadeja, whose batting has not met expectations.

On the other hand, Shami’s fitness remains questionable despite his return to competitive cricket last October following an ankle injury. His selection will depend on the availability of Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently experiencing back spasms. Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to make his Champions Trophy debut Yashasvi Jaiswal is anticipated to debut as a backup opener in the Champions Trophy.

Although he hasn’t participated in a List A match since November 2022, Jaiswal has demonstrated his capability with 1,511 runs in 32 innings at an impressive average of 453.96. His inclusion would ensure a left-handed option among the top four. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, will finalize the squad this weekend.

An overview of India’s probable squad

Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are likely to open the innings, with Virat Kohli batting at number three. The middle order will feature the likes of Shreyas Iyer, who has been performing exceptionally well in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel will provide additional strength. Sundar may also make the final cut alongside Kuldeep Yadav. In terms of pace, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and a fit Bumrah are expected to form the mainline.

South Africa set for mammoth lead as Pakistan lose key wickets

South Africa continued to boss proceedings in the second Test in Cape Town as they picked up three wickets in the second hour of the morning session on Day 3 to inflict further damage on the tourists. Pakistan are 155 for 6 and currently trails by 460 runs but they have only three wickets in hand as Saim Ayub has been ruled out of the Test match after he twisted his ankle on Day 1.

On a placid pitch with nothing much for the bowlers and the batters being rewarded for their shots, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan carried on from their unbeaten 44-run stand overnight. They survived testing spells from either end against Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen initially, and the latter even smashed Rizwan on the helmet grill.

Not one to back away from a contest, Rizwan took on Jansen against the bumpers thereafter and was rewarded with a four and a six. It was then Babar’s turn to play his shots as he scored back-to-back boundaries off Rabada to bring up his second consecutive Test fifty. The sudden flow of runs forced the hosts to make a double bowling change as Wiaan Mulder and Kwena Maphaka came into the attack but the tourists saw through their bursts until drinks.

However, five balls after the break, Babar was strangled down the legside by Maphaka – the bowler’s first-ever Test wicket – and he took off in celebration across the outfield in Newlands. It broke a vital 98-run stand for the hosts. Things from thereon got worse for Pakistan as Rizwan played an innocuous shot, only to find his stumps undone off Mulder. Salman Ali Agha found the ropes thrice in his brief 22-ball stay where he scored 19 but was outfoxed by Keshav Maharaj, one over before the Lunch break. The spinner drew Agha which caused him to overbalance off a ball that turned away sharply past the edge. Kyle Verreynne did the rest behind the stumps as Agha’s foot was in the air when the bails were dislodged.

It is safe to say that Pakistan threw away what was a good start to the morning session after they went wicketless in the first hour and still have a massive mountain to climb to save this Test.

Brief Scores of South Africa and Pakistan

South Africa: 615 (Ryan Rickelton 259, Temba Bavuma 106, Kyle Verreynne 100; Mohammad Abbas 3-94, Salman Ali Agha 3-148) lead

Pakistan: 155/6 (Babar Azam 58, Mohammad Rizwan 46; Kagiso Rabada 2-28, Keshav Maharaj 1-2) by 460 runs.

India was eliminated from the Women’s T20 World Cup, while New Zealand secured a spot in the semi-finals with a vital 54-run victory over Pakistan in their final group-stage encounter.

The Pakistani batsmen had an opportunity to lead their team to the final four following the bowler’s outstanding performance, but the equation was quite complex. In order to pull off an upset, India was also depending on its neighbors, Pakistan.

India only needed to defeat Pakistan to qualify, while Fatima Sana and the company needed to chase down the target in 10.4 overs to advance to the semi-final. But their preparations were derailed when Pakistan was bowled out for just 56 by New Zealand bowlers.

India, among the favorites before the event, had an ugly departure from the T20 World Cup. They ended the tournament with two victories in four games after losing their composure when chasing against Australia and New Zealand.
