The entire Galaxy Watch 8 lineup features a squircle-shaped cushion case inspired by the Galaxy Watch Ultra. This design update creates a cohesive look across Samsung’s smartwatch range. The Galaxy Watch 8 is 11% thinner than its predecessor and boasts a brighter display, with peak brightness increasing from 2,000 to 3,000 nits. The standard model comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, available in Silver and Graphite.

Conversely, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic returns with a single case size, presented in White and Black options. This variant reintroduces the rotating bezel, a much-loved feature among users, as well as the Quick Button that was previously found only on the Ultra model. Both versions feature a new Dynamic Lug System for easier band changes and an 11% improvement in heart rate tracking accuracy. However, this system means that older Galaxy Watch bands will not be compatible, so customers will have to select from Samsung’s revamped collection of athleisure, fabric, hybrid, and sport bands.

For runners, the Samsung Health app now includes enhanced running coach capabilities that offer personalized training advice, performance tracking, and real-time feedback—all without requiring a subscription. A new Games app was announced that will enable users to access all their Apple Arcade games and find new titles from a unified location. The Library tab will display games downloaded from the App Store, and the Play Together option will let you challenge friends.

Microsoft officially shuts down Skype today, with Teams taking its place

Before the emergence of WhatsApp and Instagram, Skype was the primary choice for video calling, widely utilized for both personal and business communications. Microsoft has decided to discontinue Skype, effective today, May 5, and will concentrate solely on its Teams application, marking the retirement of Skype. This change was officially communicated back in February, as the tech giant aims to have Teams as its main free communication tool for consumers. Skype users can transition to Microsoft Teams easily, using their existing Skype credentials on any device that is supported.

Skype has officially ended its operations

Launched over twenty years ago in 2003 and acquired by Microsoft in 2011, Skype offered features such as video telephony, video conferencing, and voice calling based on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Microsoft is also facilitating an easy transition for paying Skype users; they can use their Skype Credits and subscriptions through the end of their next renewal cycle, with Skype Credits lasting until they are fully utilized. Microsoft emphasizes that the shutdown will only affect free and paid account users, while Skype for Business accounts will remain unaffected.

Starting today, any remaining paid users will have access to the Skype Dial Pad exclusively through the Skype web portal and via Teams. Microsoft clarifies that the closure impacts users with free and paid accounts, but Skype for Business accounts will continue to operate.

Transitioning from Skype to Teams is simple. Users just need to sign into Teams with their Skype account, and all chats, contacts, and call history will be carried over. Microsoft Teams provides functionalities like one-on-one calls, group chats, group calls, and file sharing. Users will get a notification in the Skype app prompting them to manage their data migration. They have until January 2026 to switch, after which their data will be permanently erased.

Although Microsoft disclosed that there were still 36 million active users on Skype in 2023, the platform’s market share has declined over time. In contrast, Teams has seen extraordinary growth, nearly quadrupling in size over the past two years and providing similar, if not superior, features.

The IT community is buzzing over Apple’s upcoming iOS 19, with many speculations speculating about what it might bring.

An updated Siri was previously hinted at by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, while a recent leak suggests a revamped Camera app.

Additionally, it appears that certain additional functionality might potentially be added gradually in subsequent editions.

Jon Prosser demonstrated the updated Camera app in a Front Page Tech YouTube video. Transparent menus for camera controls, akin to those in visionOS, Apple’s software framework for the Vision Pro headset, are reportedly the primary update.

Compared to iOS 18, the updated Camera app in iOS 19 is said to display a larger portion of the camera’s viewfinder.

At the bottom of the application, the controls are divided into two categories: Photo and Video.

Additional parameters for video resolution and frame rate that appear at the top of the screen as needed are among the new features, along with the ability to record spatial video and set a timer for a picture.
