‘S.N.L.’: Bringing Laughter Amidst Financial Turmoil

One of the highlights of the show is ‘The White POTUS,(S.N.L.)” a spoof that portrays members of the administration in their own distorted playground for the elite.

With Easter on the horizon, it was fitting for “Saturday Night Live” to bring back a beloved sketch: a biblical scene that gets interrupted by a comedic monologue from James Austin Johnson as President Trump.

This weekend’s episode, hosted by Jon Hamm and featuring Lizzo as the musical guest, kicked off with what appeared to be a faithful re-creation of the Cleansing of the Temple, with Mikey Day portraying Jesus. “This will not stand,” Day declared, flipping over a money changer’s table.“I will purify this location of all its riches.”

The action paused to allow Johnson to step in as Trump. “Remind you of anyone?” he quipped. “Wow. I also disposed of my money last week. But instead of just one temple, I did it to the entire country. Maybe even the whole globe. The money has disappeared.”

S.N.L. Trump Easter 2025

Johnson continued: “Hello, it’s me, your beloved president, Donald Jesus Trump, once more comparing myself to the son of God. You know, people are even calling me the messiah because of the mess I made of the economy.”

He claimed that the financial chaos was “all due to my beautiful tariffs — they are truly stunning. They were yielding great results, which is why I had to end them.”

According to Johnson, the stock market “did a Jesus — it perished.”

“Then on the third day, it came back to life,” he went on. “And on the fourth day, it crashed again, potentially never to recover, just like Jesus. Where is that guy? Come back, get me out of this. And the name Jesus Christ has been spoken frequently lately. We keep saying it. We look at our 401(k) and exclaim, ‘Jesus Christ, where did everything go?’”

Johnson included a few timely jokes about Passover and Easter, commenting, “We enjoy searching for eggs, just like everyone is doing in the grocery store right now, given that they’re priced at a trillion, billion dollars.”

In conclusion, Johnson urged viewers to “remember the lesson Mister Jesus imparted when he went berserk on those money changers: We must never blend religion with commerce.”

Alappuzha Gymkhana audience review: The sports comedy-drama featuring Naslen K Gafoor was launched in both Malayalam and Tamil languages. This latest Malayalam film, which hit theaters on April 10, is making a significant impact at the box office on its first day.

The film’s trailer was unveiled on March 26, two weeks prior to its release, generating excitement around Naslen K Gafoor’s project, which represents a notable return following the controversial romantic drama “Premalu.” With a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, the film was produced on a budget of ₹20 crore.

It garnered positive reviews despite going head-to-head with Mammootty’s Bazooka. One viewer commented, “1st Half: So Far Good. Plenty of Laughable Moments. Technically, the film is Excellent. There are some lags, but the boxing element is superbly executed. #Naslen Steals The Show.” Another viewer noted, “I’m not a huge fan of Malayalam cinema. But if the Thallumaala team made a movie? I’m in.”

A third commenter stated, “The notion of Mammootty fans being intimidated by Naslen is not just a rumor; it’s the reality.” A fourth user added, “Even though it’s facing competition from a #Mammootty film, this one is providing a challenging rivalry. The enthusiasm for #Naslen and #KhalidRahman among the youth is significantly aiding the film’s success.”

Apple’s stock price surged on Wednesday as the market reacted to the latest tariff developments, which can be somewhat perplexing

President Donald Trump announced that he would implement a 90-day pause on tariffs for most countries with rates over 10%, effective immediately.

However, Apple’s increase in stock value was somewhat confusing; Trump also stated that the tariff rate on China would rise to 125%, intensifying the trade conflict between the two largest economies globally.

As Apple primarily manufactures its iPhones in China through its partner Foxconn, these elevated tariffs could result in higher prices for products like iPhones and MacBooks than previously anticipated.

Apple’s Stock Performance

On Wednesday afternoon, the S&P 500 climbed by 8.2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite soared by 9.7%, aiming for its most significant gain since October 13, 2008, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

Apple’s stock shot up by 12% to $193.59, positioning itself for its most considerable percentage gain since November 24, 2008.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives commented, “This was a much-needed relief for tech stocks, helping pull the market and these stocks back from the brink, yet China still poses the most significant risk factor for Apple and the wider supply chain.”

Trump is encouraging companies to relocate their manufacturing to the United States, using tariffs as a strategy to expedite this shift.

He wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday morning, “This is a GREAT time to move your COMPANY into the United States of America, as Apple and many others are doing in record numbers.”

Nevertheless, it seems improbable that Apple would undergo a complete transformation in its manufacturing process.

BofA Securities analyst Wamsi Mohan noted on Wednesday morning, “Even though Apple could locate labor for iPhone assembly in the U.S., a substantial part of the sub-assemblies would still need to be produced in other countries, assembled in China, and then imported to the U.S.”

He also pointed out that while relocating final assembly to the U.S. might be feasible, transforming the entire iPhone supply chain would be a far more complex challenge that could take several years, if it’s even achievable.

Lorde has new music that she wants to share

The artist shared a short 15-second teaser of what could be her first album following the 2021 release of Solar Power.

After removing all content from her social media and website, Lorde utilized this fresh start to hint at what appears to be new music.

On Wednesday, April 9, the artist uploaded a 15-second clip on TikTok, depicting her strolling through Washington Square Park in New York City. The video featured a song that suggests Lorde might be returning to her darker synth-pop origins following the sunshine-inspired sounds of her previous album, Solar Power.

The lyrics are distinctly Lorde—intimate, conversational, and somewhat challenging: “Since I was 17/I gave you everything/Now we wake from a dream/Well baby, what was that?”

It has been nearly four years since Lorde released Solar Power, which came out in August 2021 (and at the time marked her first album since 2017’s highly regarded Melodrama). Fans have been eagerly waiting for new music since at least last summer, when several hints and teasers surfaced online. These included a cryptic message about her new artistic direction, a brief clip of new music, and a post from producer Jim-E Stack suggesting collaboration with Lorde in the studio.

Lorde Collaboration

Since the release of Solar Power, Lorde has put out only a few songs, including a cover of “Take Me to the River” for last year’s Talking Heads tribute album, Everyone’s Getting Involved. Earlier this year, she collaborated with fellow New Zealand singer-songwriter Marlon Williams on his track “Kāhore He Manu E”; this song is featured on Williams’ first album in the Māori language, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, which came out last week.

Most notably, last summer, Lorde contributed to the remix of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing.” This track— which made it to Number Nine on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2024—was included in Charli’s deluxe album, Brat, which features three additional songs. The two also performed it live during Charli’s concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The upcoming second Predator film of 2025 has been announced – titled Predator: Killer of Killers

This anthology film centers on some of the most formidable warriors throughout human history as they confront Predators.

Late last year, Steve Asbell, the head of 20th Century Studios, made headlines when he disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter that the studio was releasing not one but two Predator films in 2025.

The first had already been unveiled: Predator Badlands, a live-action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for Prey, featuring Elle Fanning. The second was a previously confidential project that has now been disclosed as Predator: Killer of Killers.

On Tuesday, 20th Century released the trailer along with a premiere date of June 6 on Hulu and Disney+.

Predator Trailer

According to the film’s summary, it is an “anthology story that follows three of the most formidable warriors in human history: a Viking raider leading her young son on a brutal quest for vengeance; a ninja in feudal Japan who betrays his Samurai brother in a fierce struggle for succession; and a WWII pilot soaring through the sky to confront an otherworldly threat to the Allied forces. However, while all these warriors are deadly in their own right, they become mere prey for a new adversary — the ultimate killer of killers.”

Trachtenberg teams up with Josh Wassung from the animation company The Third Floor to direct this film. The screenplay is penned by Micho Robert Rutare, based on a story he developed with Trachtenberg.

After directing Prey, the successful sleeper hit for Hulu featuring Amber Midthunder as an 18th-century Comanche woman facing off against a Predator, Trachtenberg has established himself as the leading creative force in the Predator franchise.

“Following the success of Prey, Dan [Trachtenberg] approached us and indicated he didn’t want to work on Prey 2,” Asbell shared with THR last year. “We asked him what he was interested in pursuing, and he listed several ideas that were quite imaginative and exciting. We decided to move forward on two of them.”

In addition, Trachtenberg is set to release the live-action Predator: Badlands in theaters on November 7, with the first look presented at CinemaCon last week, where an unexpected premise was introduced.“At CinemaCon, Fanning mentioned that something never seen before happens in this movie, and her character is not the target. “In fact, my character forms an alliance with the Predator, allowing us to see him in a completely different light.”

The recent surge in the VIX could indicate a bullish trend for the stock market

Wall Street’s measure of fear might not be as alarming if one focuses on long-term investments.

According to Charlie Bilello, the chief markets strategist at Creative Planning, the CBOE Volatility Index (^VIX) experienced its largest three-day surge of the year recently. On April 7, the VIX hit its highest point in 2025 at 46.98 as international markets responded to worries over Trump’s tariffs.

Market Performance of VIX

From April 4 to April 7, the VIX surged by 118%, making it the fifth-largest increase recorded since 2014, based on Bilello’s analysis.

Interestingly, although traders frequently utilize the VIX as a short-term indicator of market fear, historically, its extreme levels have suggested a bullish outlook for stocks over the long term.

After analyzing VIX spikes over the last decade, which ranged from 63% to 176%, Bilello found that the average one-year return for the S&P 500 (^GSPC) amounted to around 4.4%. Furthermore, five years following the VIX increase, the S&P 500 has shown an average return of 10.2%.

“Bilello mentioned on X that ‘high volatility and fear present a chance,’ seeking to explain the beneficial aspects associated with a measure frequently seen as bearish.”

Currently, the VIX is at 40. In line with Bilello’s findings, buyers have started to surface in the currently depressed stock market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) surged by 3.4%, gaining over 1,300 points at the opening, as traders seized on reports that the Trump administration has begun trade talks with Japan and other nations. Notable rises are also happening in the S&P 500 (^GSPC) and the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC).

This development is interpreted as an indication that Trump’s widespread tariffs, which are expected to be implemented on Wednesday, will serve as a negotiating strategy.

Notable investor acquires NVDA, noting exceptionally high demand for GPUs

Renowned investor Brad Gerstner recently informed CNBC that he has purchased shares of Nvidia (NVDA). He attributed this decision to the exceptionally high demand for GPU chips and President Donald Trump’s choice to exclude semiconductors from tariffs.

Gerstner is the founder of Altimeter Capital.

Gerstner’s Reasoning Behind Acquiring NVDA

“The demand for GPUs is unprecedented,” the investor remarked. “We are hearing this from companies like Google (GOOG), Tesla (TSLA), and others,” he further stated.

Gerstner pointed out that with Trump’s exemption of chips from tariffs, it seems likely that semiconductors will continue to avoid tariffs in the future.

“If we were to impose tariffs on the chips that we’ve designed and which are being purchased” by major U.S. companies, including Meta (META) and Microsoft (MSFT), “we would be impairing our own progress,” Gerstner explained. He emphasized that such a move could jeopardize America’s chances of succeeding in the AI competition.

In light of the tariff exemption that chips have received, Gerstner indicated that NVDA will be less affected by tariffs compared to many other technology companies.

Nevertheless, he warned that in the event of a U.S. recession, “even Nvidia may not perform as well.”

While we recognize NVDA’s potential, we firmly believe that AI stocks have a greater likelihood of providing higher returns in a shorter period. One AI stock has appreciated since the start of 2025, whereas popular AI stocks have dropped by about 25%.
